This pretty lake wasn't supposed to be our only destination but poor weather forced us to change our plans.
Starting from the Moose Meadows parking lot, the trail climbs gradually through forest before joining the Johnston Canyon Trail. After a few steeper sections the path leads down to the paint pots, bubbling pools near Johnston Creek. There's a nice bridge across the creek, surrounded by the peaks of the Sawback Range. Soon the forest closes in and most of the next 9 kms are a steady journey up the valley. At kilometer 16, leave the main trail and drop down to Johnston Creek, again crossing on a good bridge. The last kilometer to Luellen Lake is a tough grind when you're carrying a full pack but the views are worth the effort (I think!).
