The Eremite Valley is accessed from Tonquin Valley or by an alternate trail up Astoria Valley. I hiked it starting from the ACC hut at Outpost Lake. It was a shame that there was a heavy, overcast sky making it tough to get a decent photo.
Beginning at the valley floor, the trail meanders along the border between forest and meadow. After a kilometer or two you begin gaining elevation as the path winds it's way up a ridge below Thunderbolt Peak. The best part of this part of the route is the huckleberry and blueberry bushes lining the trail. That is, until you remember you're in prime grizzly bear territory. When I wasn't eating the ripe berries I had my head up, making sure I wouldn't surprise a bear fattening up for the coming winter.
Not too long later there's a short descent to Arrowhead Lake at the head of the valley. There were many inviting ways to go from there but as I was on my own I took a few photos before heading back to the cabin for the night.
