Mount McGuire

This is the second year that this mountain has made my Top 5 list. That's because this year I finally made it to the peak!

Drive to the end of the deteriorating FSR and park. Walk down to the toe of a rock slide and pick your way up. Below the cliff face there is a steep chute to your right that leads into the forest. After 15 minutes on the tilted path, you break free of the trees and ascend a precipitous slope to the crest of the ridge. Follow along the ridge before dropping into the flower filled bowl. I couldn't find a trail through this part but your objective is the southern shoulder of the mountain and you just chose the best line.

Once on the shoulder, you pick-up the old trail and follow it to the peak, passing clumps of wildflowers.

There's great 360° views from the summit. It took me almost 3 hrs to reach the peak but I stopped often to take photos.
